SHARON ARTS PRESENTS WORK BY N.H. VISUAL ARTS FELLOWS:
A Gathering of New Hampshire Visual Arts Fellows: 1999-2009
The first exhibition of State Arts Council Visual Arts Fellows in over 15 years
PETERBOROUGH, N.H.— Video installation artist Amy Jenkins filled the Peterborough Historical Society with virtual water. Francestown filmmaker and screenwriter Hilary Weisman Graham whipped up short films as a contestant on the Fox reality TV show “On the Lot.” Conceptual eco-artist Tim Gaudreau photographed everything he threw away over the course of a year. Painter Clifford Smith is known for his hyper-realistic renditions of water.
Those are just four of the 25 artists whose works will be featured in a group show that highlights the best New Hampshire has to offer in the way of visual and media arts. The exhibit, opening Oct. 3 at the Sharon Arts Center Exhibition Gallery, brings together for the first time work by visual artists who have received fellowships from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts during the last decade.
“A Gathering of New Hampshire Visual Arts Fellows: 1999-2009” will be showing in the Sharon Arts Center’s Exhibition Gallery in downtown Peterborough from Oct. 3 through Nov. 29. The artists work in a wide variety of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, installation art and film.
Individual Artist Fellows have been selected annually by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts since 1981. They represent the range of artists living and working in New Hampshire who have a proven professional commitment and produce works of high artistic quality, as judged by a panel of their peers from anonymous applications. Fellowships are awarded in three categories, Visual and Media Arts, Performing Arts, and Literature, and are highly competitive; usually only two artists are chosen in each category each year from more than a hundred applicants. Fellowships provide recipients with funding and opportunities to further their artistic careers.
There has been only one other exhibition featuring the work of Visual Arts Fellows in the history of the program, more than 15 years ago. This is a unique opportunity for gallery visitors, from the local community as well as from out of state, to see the work of artists from across New Hampshire who have been honored for their talent.

Although the exhibition will focus on recipients of Visual Arts Fellowships, the gallery will also offer presentations by Artist Fellows in Performing Arts and Literature in specially scheduled events during the run of the exhibition. A schedule of events will be posted on the website (www.sharonarts.org). The media will also be notified as events are scheduled.
